Remember silly bands?
Back before valentines day in my grade year noone did. They were just some Rubber bands in the back of the store that pretty much nobody around the world knew about. A stupid, colorful, animal-shaped gimmick.

That is..untill Mr.Popular decided to buy a pack. This kid, George, was the heart and soul of in-school fame. Everyone liked him, even the teachers. Some 2cd graders said they "had a crush on him" (2CD GRADE O.0) and he had never gotten in trouble. Anyway about a week before valentines day he got a pack of them (had left over money after getting a candy bar i presume) and the students were buzzing around him saying "what are those?" And he described them as animal bands. At valentines day he gave one to everyone, and then all the students dashed to the store and bought a ton. I immediately noticed the fad,and being the curious person i am, looked up silly bands on my mom's old computer. Nothing showed up exept some rubber bands that people twisted into shapes or something. About a week later my sister was saying "I NEED SILLY BANDS EVERYONE HAS THEM!!" And i was shocked. I asked her about it and she said one of her friend's older sister gave some to that friend, who then wore them..etc. (i remember it so well because i wrote it down in my old diary) soon, i started noticing people in the area wearing them. 3 weeks later i visted philladelphia to see my aunt Emma, and i saw some kids trading them. Then a month or two later it was huge.
In a nutshell, i can proudly say that i know how this fad started haha.

Sorry for the lack of detail xD the only info i have is my diary and the bits and pieces i remember xD

In my day it was leather studded wristbands and a bandana around one pant leg, there was even a "Diffrent Strokes" episode about it. On a more local level the neighborhood market used to sell plastic clown whistles for $.25 so all of the homeboys ended up having at least one. I went through several due to losing them and blowing them so hard they stopped working

I thought this thread was about a silly music group when I read the tittle & now that I read it I'm not sure what it's about.

If I'm not mistaken, as I usually am, Kids' Crater is further down the hall still :P

After the leather bands, those Madonna jelly bands were big for a while, then Friendship Bracelets or "buddy bands" as seen on "Saved By The Bell", then Slap Bracelets, then the Madonna style ones again when the news media began reporting about "rainbow parties", then there were all those Lance Armstrong ones that doubled nicely as vacuum cleaner belts, then those holographic ones that are supposed to align the organs in your body with the Earth's magnetic polarity or some such nonesuch. Am I missing any?

They remind me of Pogs, a stupid game with little round paper chips(like poker chips) that you threw these metal chips on or something stupid like that and they came in many collectible designs and of course in foil packages so would had to buy hundreds of the things to get them all. I was like 4-5 years old when those were really cool, I did not get why having these things were such a big deal. Like the silly bands someone made millions and billions of dollars on a few fraction of cents worth of materials.

I had some - a pack of generic ones. I never really got into them. I prefer silicone wristbands. :D
