I have always had, still have, an absolute horror for buttons. Zips have been for me a liberation.
When I was a child I feared much meteorites and abysses opening of a sudden in the earth. I didn’t have much fear of physical dangers, nor of germs, lightnings or animals of any size.

I'm scared of escalotors. I'll ride them now, but as a kid i refused and had to take either stairs or an elevator.

I have a phobia of stairs with open treads. Otherwise my phobias are several, but common.

As a kid, I had a phobia of chandeliers. Whenever I saw a chandelier, I would freeze up and stare at it with a tense, panicked look in my eyes. The worst fear was of the one in my childhood apartment. I think it caused to me to fear most chandeliers, unless it had a very simple design (no metal parts, no exposed light bulbs, and no branching elements). Ceiling fans, on the other hand, were no problem at all, regardless of their design.

I have a fear of cars. I might as well admit it to myself; I drive, but I really don't like to. You can't trust 'em. There's a million things that can break or fall off that will cost you a week's salary or get you killed. They require too much metal for the act of transporting (usually) one person. And when you're driving down a busy, narrow street, all it takes is one counterclockwise half turn of the steering wheel to experience a very gruesome death.

Dogs and telephones, mostly. I used to be a bit scared of cats but I got over that one. :)

Fear of structural failure. It is not usually the height per se that afears me, it is the rear that that bolt - the one right there carryihng the load is corroded or loaded with dislocations and that it will fail catastrophically.
