What an awful experience today was.

I have a sphinx cat, he's not allowed outdoors because he has no fur and someone might steal him. 2 weeks ago he ran outside so I chased him hoping to catch him, but as I slipped and landed sideways on a 4ft fence as I tried to grab him jumping over it. I landed on my rib.

For 2 weeks the pain in my rib was bearable. I didn't go to hospital because there's very little they can do for a bruised or fractured rib. But today I must have strained too hard because the pain was so horrible I couldn't breathe properly. Every time I breathed it hurt, if I moved it hurt, I couldn't cough or sneeze. Very painful.

So I called my Dad to take me because I thought it may be serious. I left with pain medication, and they said there is no point in doing an xray because they can't do anything for ribs unless they are causing a threat to life, and in my case - even though painful - it wasn't life threatening.

What an experience. Sitting in the car with my Dad hoping he'd stop talking. I love him really, he does a lot for me and has Bladder Cancer.

Anxiety attack after anxiety attack in the hospital, and then on the way home I was pretty sure I was about to die. Real bad anxiety attack. I hate being out of the house, or in a car. I'm not in control in the car, the driver is, and I can't escape at will, so it puts me in a vulnerable state.

But, it's over with. My anxiety has gone, I'm back home. Just a very nasty experience.

If the pain medicine you got was narcotic it could be helping anxiety & emotional stuff. Do your best to get as much rest as you can & I hope you get better soon

I hope you feel better soon. Did they tell you about how long it will be until you should be healed or at least feeling better? I also hope your cat came back!

They said it could be painful for up to 6 weeks. My younger brother had a similar injury and it took him 2 years. I hope it doesn't take that long. At the moment the pain is really bad, but I hope it gets better soon. Hurts to breath deep and when I move in bed it's agony.

The cat came back yes :p He's a little Houdini! Here's an image of him. He has little bits of fuzzy fur here, but that's fell off. He only gets it in the winter. He has a few battle scars from fighting with next doors cat, but he's lovely.

So cute.
i dont normaly question doctors as they are proffetionals (most of the time)but how can they tell how bad it is without an xray.if its out of place ,or leaning on organs.though it could have been a pull or tear in the intercostal muscles.
Hope you get better soon.take it easy.
And yes hospitals really do suck, eeeew people germs :D
