I do not know why.
I do know that the thing about autistic people often looking younger than their calendar age is talked about.
I do not think that autism causes us to look younger than we are. When NTs & others guess people's ages, they tend to factor in various things like the way someone dresses, their behavior, their mannerisms, their facial expressions, their body language, the way they talk, what they talk about, their interests, ect ect. Us autistics do tend to age slower mentally than our peers. Lots of things say that on average an autistic's mental age is a 3rd less than their physical age. That is just an average & there are PLENTY of exceptions thou including some autistics who are mentally older than their physical ages. I think our mental age tending to be younger causes us to give off a younger vibe. There is also a saying that you should say that a woman is younger than her actual age. That is probably related to a stereotype that women lie about their age & claim to be younger than they actually are. Some women are very insecure about their age & the media & fashion industry have made mega bux playing off their insecurity by hyping products that supposedly make women look younger.
Lots of things sometimes related to autism can cause people to physically age faster. Us autistics tend to be under lots of stress from living in a world not designed for us. Lots of psych meds have various side-effects that can shorten life like raising cholesterol, raising blood pressure, & raising blood sugar to name a few & us autistics do tend to take more psych meds than the general population(I take 4 different psych meds daily). We can be very picky eaters & have very unbalanced diets(I sure do). We tend to be homebodies who prefer to spend time online which can cause us to be less physically active(I sure need to be more active).
