I'm writing a character who is afraid of dogs, doesn't like them at all. But can she hate puppies too? Is anybody repulsed when they see a puppy?

I can't say I hate them, more I dislike being around the ones that can't stop barking, jumping, running and shredding etc. This goes for any dog really.

That really made me laugh. You were so fast, do you keep puppy cartoons on hand?

No, I could feel the presence of your post approaching like dogs can sense an earthquake before it happens.

I used to be obsessed with getting a puppy. Then I got one but I had to leave it with my mum when I moved out. I still like and appreciate puppies but I prefer cats due to my current housing (small townhouse with no yard). One day in the distant future when I have a house with a proper fenced in yard I'll get a dog again, a BIG one.

I've always liked dogs and I do like little puppies too.

The only problem I have with dogs is that they like to bite me for some reason.

In fact someone at work offered me a Staffordshire bull terrier puppy the other day.

I can't have it though because of where I live.

I think it is possible. It might not be the same aversion as with adult dogs (which can painfully bite you) but one can avoid puppies considering them scary, ugly and unpredictable.
Wild dogs can become scary very fast, even a month old puppy might make scary sounds and act like it is ready to attack you if it was teached by its mother that humans are dangerous. And before that - the puppy is just a shapeless, dirty ball of fur. Nothing to look at.
But even home rised puppies can be not nice to be with. One can be scared that the puppy will lick or pee on him. It's ugly. And if someone is afraid of dogs he might feel like all dogs are toxic and he is going to be infected if a dog touches or even snuffle him. The "toxication" won't disapear just because the dog is still a puppy.
Plus - puppies tend to run like crazy, jump at you, bark and eat the shoes. It not funny.

Personally I like puppies (although I am afraid a puppy will pee on me if I hold it or that I am going to hurt it by mistake because dogs bodies are somehow less flexible than cats which I am used to) but I don't like spiders and I still consider this specie of spider: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zebra_spider cute even though I am afraid of it like any other spider and I would never touch it. I think it is comparable with the dog vs puppy thing.

You guys make great points about the puppies and how to stress her out. Thanks so much. All I could think of was how lovable they are!
