There's a thread running elsewhere on WP where I went off on a strange tangent and ended up talking about smoothies  Thought I'd actually have a play at the concept, see what everyone else thinks. This is my latest metaphor for life, society, our own uniqueness and how they all tie in together. You know you wanna play along! :D

So here's the deal. The analogy is, everyone is their own 'flavour' of smoothie/milkshake/cocktail. Some people will love your flavour, others will hate it. We all have to find a way to make our flavour work to some degree in the big punch bowl that is the world we live in. Even just a little bit :)

So how do people find out your flavour? They look at the smoothie, see its colour and texture, the glass it's in. This is viewing you from a distance. They get a whiff of the scent over the top as they get to know you. The bullies that tease and torment you are just having a look and a sniff, deciding it's not as good as their smoothie (or that you've got something they don't and they WANT IT because your cherries are so much tastier than their sour grapes) or they just don't like it...and that's the end of it. Friends take a good slurp and like something about it. Family, lovers, best friends...they're like wine tasters. Roll the flavour over their tongue, take in the scents carefully, taste every flavour as it comes and goes and rounds off into a lovely finish with each mouthful.

We can work to 'change' our flavours a little to make it work, or to make it better. Of course you can't change your flavour completely...if you're a mainly chocolate smoothie, there is NOTHING you can do to stop it from tasting like chocolate. So if everyone else likes strawberries, you can't go stuff your smoothie full of strawberries because you'll stop tasting like you! You'll look and taste kinda funky, and probably won't be very happy. And everyone else can see the chocolate with strawberry covering it up. But say you want to work with everyone else a little better, be that little bit more enticing...you blend in just one or two strawberries in your bigass milkshake. You're still chocolate, but strawberry-lovers can taste a little hint of their favourite ;)

When things go wrong, our smoothie flavour changes as well. Here's the banana theory again...lol...say you get really depressed, life REALLY sucks right now. The bananas in your smoothie have oxidised and gone sour. Suddenly you don't look or feel so great, don't taste good either. Yuck! Either you go out there and find your own new bananas to replace the blegh ones, or someone comes along with something (bananas or otherwise) that you can use...because they care, or want to help :) May be a friend, a lover, family...giving advice, money, a shoulder to cry on, somewhere to stay...you name it. Given time, the stale bananas go away and you're left with lovely sweet ones like you always had :)

SO!

What flavour are you?

I reckon I'm one heck of a cocktail myself, sweet-and-sour. I've got those fruity elements - exotic mangos and pineapples along with bananas and such, as I'm of mixed blood. Few strawberries cuz I can be sweet if I need to be (strawberries, btw, are one of the few fruit that kids are guaranteed to eat). There's also a savoury side to me too...a hint of chilli or tobasco, take your pick...because bloody hell I can be vehement at times! Don't piss me off. It ain't pretty. (But it's just a little bit of spice!) Along with the powerful 'violent' flavours there is a bit of lemon and grapefruit if you will...there's a sour, sarcastic, vindictive side in there sometimes as well. Sometimes I really ramp up the lemon juice and burn people's faces off, other days you can't taste it at all, it's all mangos :) When it comes to the love life thing, there's a high level of sexuality and adoration/affection that comes with this smoothie...if you're thinking with your pants, expect to taste a lot of rich, dark chocolate with this smoothie!

One thing you won't taste in this smoothie is vanilla! ;)

All in all - I'm a rfuit based smoothie filled with strong flavours. Catch this smoothie in the wrong mood and you'll either get hot-n-spicy, or sour lemons! Catch it in a flirty mood, and you get chocolate and strawberries (which is pretty nice in fruit smoothies, from experience). It's not blended very smooth...for a girl I'm pretty rough and tumble. I love my cars, would never be caught dead in a skirt. I wrestle the boys. You'll get lumps in your slurp from time to time. Lots of texture.

So what about you guys? After dinner cocktail? Breakfast milkshake? Tropical smoothie? Something no one's ever even thought of before? :)

Here's what you have with me: Start with some bourbon, and to it add mint, ginger, a tiny bit of wasabi, add in a pinch of sea salt (specifically, salt from the French cost on the Mediterranean, and mix that into a chocolate shake made from Half&half cream with some chocolate milk mix and vanilla ice cream. I guess that makes me a simple, earthy, well refined sort that packs a punch!

Nothing wrong with vanilla, I'm vanilla; solid, practical, always there when the more capricious flavors up and ran away. Boring? perhaps a little, but you can add just about anything to vanilla and not ruin the taste, it's a good place to start. I'm certainly not just vanilla anymore, a bit of sweet, a touch of heat, and some nuts swirled in there to liven things up... I don't know, it's early yet, but I think I'll be a pretty damned satisfying shake when things are said and done.

I'm the darkest of chocolates, bitter but oh-so tasty. Add several drops of raw of Capsaicin - the chemical that makes peppers hot. This renders me completely inedible to most people - they cannot stand the heat I make them feel. Add to this mix true Balsamic Vinegar - sweet, complex and thicker then blood. And finally - True Kona Arabica beans, a complex and slightly energizing taste that lingers for hours.

Synopsis: I bring such a punch that most turn away at the first whiff but beneath is a complex, dark and slightly sweet drink.

I'd be an awful milkshake, all metallic-tasting.

Dark chocolate, mixed with some metal in solution, and with flammable brandy.

I prefer chocolate, but in reality, I'm Red Cherry, for a very obvious reason. If you want to know the reason, just look at my avatar.

no vanilla. i'd be a really fruity smoothie. half of the smoothie would be mangos and the rest would be a mixture of random fruits.

i'm also another smoothie. it's called the anything edible and non-poisonous goes smoothie. i can have donuts, ketchup, peaches, chicken, frosting ect... in my smoothie.

And who said Aspies can't do metaphors, eh?!

Still Hokey-Pokey flavour. That's vanilla with small hard ball of caramel in it. It's a Kiwi invention.
