Earlier this even I saw a text message show up on my phone, which the contents did not make any sense. I also got an email in my Google Mail Account with an audio attachment. The phone number showed it was from suburban Houston. The voice message from from someone who was demanding that my attorney and I were to contact him immediately about a time sensitive matter, and that failure of my attorney and I to contact him would result in some not-too-pleasant circumstances. When I called the number back from the voice mail message, I get an intercept from a text messaging service that the number could not be contacted. Being a bit concerned, I contacted the consumer affairs reporter at the local NBC affiliate. I suspect a scam, but with the issues I've had in the past with the City of Philadelphia's department of revenue, (they state I still owe the city some $3,000.00 in back taxes and penalties, from when I lived in Philadelphia and worked for Naval Research and Development in nearby Warminster. Problem is, I haven't lived in Philadelphia since 1995. This whole mess started because my employer, who was contractor involved with the GPS project at NRaD, never withheld Philadelphia City Wage tax from his employees pay, and shited the blame for non-payment on his employees. While I did pay off the entire amount owed, plus penalties and interest, the city comes back to me after the statute of limitations ran out on the bill, and has been trying to squeeze more money out of me ever since.) makes me wonder if something else is going on.

I also just found out that my primary care physician is affiliated with a hospital that is owned by the Community Hospitals group. Community Hospitals just had a major breach of data security by a hacker group out of China. Could this threatening message I got be related to this security breach?

Are you 100% certain that your employer actually withheld that tax, and that you weren't scammed? You should call the relevant authorities to verify that the correspondences were from them.

This shyster never withheld Philadelphia Wage tax, which, at the time, was 4.5%, until he was forced to do so, under threat of jail time, after June of 1995. When I moved back to York, I had enough trouble getting him to withhold York County Wage Tax, which is 1%. I still got stuck for paying back taxes and penalties for taxes due from Sept 1993 to June 1995.

I destroyed all my receipts to the city of Philadelphia years ago, considering that the statute of limitations was up in 2003. Normally, Pennsylvania state and county records law follow Federal Records Law, which, in the case of payroll and taxes, is 7 years, according to the National Archives and Records Administration. I normally have been ignoring anything from Philadelphia Department of Revenue because of the Statue of Limitations. Also, I can't afford a tax attorney admitted to the Philly bar.

It was probably a scam text message, or simply sent to the wrong person. Shortly after getting a mobile WiFi router it started getting text messages saying "my" electricity bill was overdue. During the following few months the text messages became more aggressive saying the electric was going to be cut off and finally included one from a lawyer saying "I" was being sued for non-payment. I ignored the lot because I knew my electricity bills had been paid and besides I guessed the messages were intended for whoever had the cell/mobile number before it was allocated to my modem/router. The messages never referred to me by name. Not had any more text messages for some time now, they've probably figured out the number isn't valid any more for whoever they are trying to contact.

If you try to dig up whoever is sending you these messages you could just be opening up a can of worms.

Problem is, the voice mail I received in my gmail account at the same time I received the text message, did specifically refer to me by name.

^ Haven't you had any letters about the issue? Or do "they" only know your phone number and email address rather than your current physical address? I would expect this sort of communication to be in the form of physical mail.

Either ignore it or contact the police.
