I remember when gas was 35 cents a gallon. Anybody else remember prices of anything from the old days?

I remember people complaining in 2001 when it was $1.20/litre. I'm pretty sure it was below $1.00 at one point but I didn't pay attention to fuel prices until people started complaining. Basic unleaded is about $1.57/litre now.

I'm almost old enough. It was just over when I was a little kid. I remember watching the numbers on the display go up rapidly (much faster than they seem to do today) and root for the gallon display to catch up with the price display. It was always sooo close to making it.

Needless to say, I didn't understand math yet.

Where are you, Blue Bean? I would guess: Canada.

At one point in 2001, gas went down to about 85 cents a gallon in New Jersey. It hit 99 cents in some stations in the NYC area.

$1.20 a litre is equivalent to about $4.50 a gallon! Canadians had it bad, then! It was also about 65 US Cents to the Canadian Dollar back then.

It's true: the gas is pumped much slower these days than it was in the past. Maybe for safety reasons?

Actually, I remember gas being in the .27 cents per gallon range back in the 60's.

The cheapest I remember is 32.9 cents a gallon right before the Oil Embargo of 1973.

During the Embargo, gas went up to the 50's immediately. There were long gas lines as well.

I remember filling up a five-gallon drum with regular at 23 cents a gallon at the Hy-Flash between the fire station and the party store across from the grain elevator. This was back in the mid-1960s.

I remember 85 cents a gallon in the 1990s.
We're all getting so hosed on gas prices these days.

Where, Yippy?

I remember it being always over a dollar a gallon throughout most of the 80s and 90s.

Winter in Michigan. It used to go up to about $1.20 in the summer.

That must have been cool!

I wish, at the very least, that gas would go below $2!

Then again....we're fortunate we're paying $3 or so per gallon. In places like England, they're pushing $10 a gallon at times.

I remember feeling sorry for drivers in Africa because they had to pay 60 cents a gallon (according to every documentary movie I saw).

That was back in Sixities when it was around 29 cents a gallon here.
