Hi, this is my first time posting, and since i don't see a board specifically related to Medical concerns possibly outside of the realm of ASD's it seemed this was the only place i should put this.
I have a question about skin sensitivity and skin conditions
I'm trying to figure out how to narrow down a problem with my skin I've had since I was 9.
The problem is skin itching. For the most part any chronic consistent area of itch is limited to my back, shoulders and the nape of my neck. I also am extremely sensitive where body hairs are concerned. Any bother associated with hair like that though is solved by removing the hair. The issue with the skin on my neck, back, and shoulders however is relatively consistent. Usually the skin is dry, but even when it's soft to the touch it can bother me, worst of all when I get wet.
Sorry for the long explanation, my questions i guess are thus:
1. How do i narrow down the problem?
2. Should I see a Dermatologist or begin with my GP?
3. Are there any ways to reduce skin sensitivity associated with an ASD?

I do have long hair btw but I'm fairly conscious of not letting it sit on that area when wet.

thank you to anyone who responds.

Does it just itch when the hair rubs against it or do you have any actual rash bumps?I have long hair, which I usually wear in a long braid but little hairs get loose and touch my skin and can be itchy. Before I began braiding my hair and just let it hang over neck and shoulder tops....I would actually get a rash....maybe from any hair products that werent washed out, maybe from the
bleach that is in most water.I really dont know, but any heat would make it much worse,as the hair would trap heat and perspiration between hair and skin.

If you use any leave on conditioners or hair gel, there can be so many chemicals it is hard to tell which maybe triggering an allergy. Is this the only area you have the itching?I recently had an allergic reaction to a medication and seem to become hypersensitive to many chemicals....my whole body itchs and nothing I have tried seems to help.As soon as I get medical insurance I plan on seeing a dermatologist and recommend you do the same if your itching involves bumps or rashes....if it is just the feeling of the hair rubbing against the skin, you can try and wear your hair so it doesnt touch your skin or have it cut.

Hope this helps. The itching has been driving me nuts lately, you have my sympathy,it sucks and adds to other sensory overloads.Until you have a chance to see a DR,you could try taking a Benadryl before bed(it will make you tired)or covering area with calomine lotion.
(I wish we had a separate section for medical stuff here.)
