Type your first and last name and the city you live in or have lived in on google search. What do you find? Me for instance, something about special olympics comes up because I was in it for a month or two. (i dont have an intellectual disability, where i come from you can compete if you have Aspergers) It was someone interviewing my mom during regional games and she gave them my full name. The problem is I don't really want others to know i'm in the special olympics, especially future partners or bosses etc.

Thats why I never give my full name when someone is interviewing me. I usually give a fake last name. Because I don't want people google searching me and finding out I am autistic or anything else I don't want to tell other people. Anyone interviewing me and asking for my last name, I never give it anymore.

Good for you for being careful like that. I am middle aged so don't have a huge past on the internet. But younger people really do. I am alarmed to see so many younger people being utterly careless with what they put out there. They post pictures where they are clearly drunk or making out with somebody or flashing the camera or doing something that they will regret other people seeing when they are older. I did all that stupid stuff too. The difference is that in my generation there was no digital media to capture it. There were only the cameras people sometimes carried with them and they pictures they took weren't very numerous since you had to pay for photo processing. So most shenanigans never got filmed.

These days, literally every shenanigan that young people do is filmed and uploaded somewhere to be preserved forever. I couldn't bear that level of photographic scrutiny but so many young people embrace it.

Janissy isn't my real name. I post no geographic, demographic (beyond "middle aged") or professional details about myself. I don't post on a myriad of fora, just here. But even here I am alarmed to see people go into dox-enabling detail about themselves. It's a little scary to see the fishbowl we are all in but I try to drape a cover over my part of it.

Anyone who looks me up now is going to know I have autism. It's because my mom runs a business for people on the spectrum so i'm going to show up whether I like it or not. Damnit. Now i'm never going to be normal. I just found out about this like right now.

Well it could be worse. At least nude pictures/videos of me arnet floating around the internet.

But still, it's something I don't want anyone to know unless I tell them. I dont know about you but I don't want people looking me up and finding personal information about me such as me being autistic or competing in the special olympics. People will think i'm special and thats the last thing I want people to think of me as. I'm not telling a girl I just met that i'm autistic. I'm just not.

The only thing found about me is my last address that is all, I have no record and avoid social media for the most part.

What are personal things do you think shouldn't be posted on internet??
I feel a bit exposed after reading this

Nude pictures and videos of yourself. Especially if they have your name on them.

I think also using your identity on internet might make you exposed if you don't post professional things

I typed in my maiden name and married name and all I found was my husband's name and everything else wasn't related to me and it showed my old address and it also said I lived in a unit apartment. I guess this is a good sign. It does help that other people share the same first and last name as me ha.

A bunch of stuff came up when I typed both my married name and my maiden name, but nothing bad. One of my kids popped up with my name search too, and a bunch of stuff about my husband. The only unsettling thing about it is that I'd be pretty easy to find in real life, and so would my kids.

Posts on my mom's blog, something I liked on Facebook, things about my relatives, and a few things that have nothing to do with me.

I found my current location plus two places that I haven't lived in since the early 80's, crazy.

Be careful what you post on the internet, it can be used against you.

What I found out is that I am apparently studying since almost 8 years - because I registered on a job center website as a student and never updated my status after graduating. :D

Other than that - my facebook profile.

And afterwards - link to my profile on a facebook app that I tried out and never actually used. It only says I am interested in Astronomy, Internet and Thunderstorms and doesn't give any more info (except "I just want to talk" in "reason of being on the website"). Not bad. I still put Astronomy and Thunderstorms as my main interests in each CV and my fb profile is full of astronomy/thunderstorm photos so it won't hurt at all if a potential employer spys on me.
