What if the entire internet from the early 2000s and 10s were archived? Your children and grandchildren from 2050 could see what you used to post on the internet back in 2012. Forum boards, Youtube videos, social media sites, you name it. It's all there for your future grandchildren to see. Including stuff you don't want your future grandchildren to see that you wish you would have never posted. Such as making out with another man one time. Now that would be embarrassing.

What will your grandchildren find out about you just from your internet history?

Doubtful.

I never use my real name except for one professional board.

Only I have passwords to my accounts.

I guess if they wanna be Sherlock Holmes, what do I care? I'll probably be dead by then.

Ever heard of the Wayback Machine?

I don't care what my grandkids see that I wrote. Let them look. I don't use my real information and they would have to read through all my posts to figure out it was me and then some true things would throw them off the trail. "Nonna wouldn't EVER do that, that's not her!"

Why should I care about that? What I'd care about is if my grandchild had nothing better to do than spend hours and hours looking up BS that their grandmother wrote decades before. Maybe I should say something about that right now. I never put X-no archive in anything, so here we go.

This next part in quotes is to my grandbaby. Not anyone here, it's to my grandbaby later on when they are spending hours that could be used much better doing something else, looking me up.

"Hey! Grandbaby! If you are here looking up my stuff, then get the hell off the internet and go outside and play. Go hang out with people in whatever Holodeck chamber that is available in all Starbucks now and see what other people or doing. Or instead of looking up me, go look up something less lame than your grandmother. Go find your mom and dad's old fights on FB. It's there. That Zukerburg boy keeps everything. Go back to the early 2010's and look them up and you'll learn some interesting cusswords from your dad. He learned how to cuss from me. He's decent at it. You'll also see a lot more of your mother in those pics than you want to! Don't look at all of them. Go to that one site that keeps all mugshots and look us all up. Especially your grandpa's family, they don't want anybody to know they went to jail. Print them out. Threaten to blackmail grandpa's family with them. It will work, for real on them, but not our part of the family. Do it. I'm nowhere near as interesting as some of the crap the rest of the family put online. It's embarrassing, it's funny, and none of us honest to God care if people know about it except grandpa's people, so have at it. Also, get over here and cut my grass please! I'm sick of how high it is and I told you I'd pay you. Sign off the internet and go do something, even if it's wrong. Anything's got to be better than what you're doing.

I love you baby,

Nonna"

hello grandchildren. Your grandpa used to troll noobs for fun on the internet. Take people to the wildy in runescape and kill them then take their stuff. I'm 20 and can still fart stairway to heaven. Oops I didn't want you to know that. Be sure to check out my 1 hour epic music compilation on Youtube. You probably don't even know what a Youtube is. Go tell your parents who I havn't met yet that me from 2015 says hello

your loving and often immature Grandpa

I didn't get Web access until I was in my mid-40s. People usually take more risks and try out different identities when they're young, which might help explain why (as far as I remember) I've never written anything on the Web that I'd be embarrassed about. I used to over-share, so there's probably a few personal details out there that I might not feel too comfy about young grandchildren seeing, but I don't think any of it would show me in a very bad light, just a bit of an idiot for revealing it.

My children aren't going to know my usernames or their children so how are they going to know it's me? Only thing they might see is my facebook if that service still exists and I do not share there what I post here or anywhere else.

It wouldn't worry me if they did. I love and accept them, they seem to have mutual regard for me.

Exactly my first thought. And it's pretty efficient: http://archive.org/web/ - not perfect, but darn close.

Heck, I've been reading blog posts that a girl I really like did when she was 15/16 and she's now 23. Heck by the time she's 80 those teenage posts of hers will still be available

I do not think I'll be having any grand-children as I do not plan on having any kids, therefore no grandchildren.

There is sooo much about me on the Internet, that there is no sense in self-editing at this point. While I protect my privacy proudly and even occasionally use utilities like TOR and FakeNameGenerator, I realize that there has been a lot of water under the bridge during my life. So, for those online activities in which I engage as myself, I am David. For the very few other things that are incidental and meaningless to any history of myself (like downloading a two-for-one coupon), I am happy to be Sven from India. It helps to avoid the corporate data miners.

As if they would have nothing better to do.

My grandma writes a lot in Internet forums and I even know which ones and what her user name is but I never felt any need to spy on her so I have no idea why my grandchildren would spy on me.

They might have some fun reading it if they find it by mistake but that's OK. I once read my mom's diary that she wrote when she was a teenager (I found it in school desk in my grandma house). Not a big deal. I showed it to her and we both laughed of how stupid she was back then.

People change.
A senior person is not the same as he/she was as a teenager or a kid, not even as a young adult. Sure, it's still the same person but at the same time it's not anymore. Are you ashamed of being a toddler and pissing in diapers some years ago? No? Then you won't be ashamed 40 years from now about what you were doing as a teenager/young adult. That's only natural, everyone does stupid things when they are young.

While there may be things I wish I didn't post or share online in hindsight, there's nothing so terrible out there that I'm really worried about. For the most part it isn't important to anyone. Also, much of anything "odd" I've ever posted is under aliases vs. my real name. The only bad stuff someone might find are frustrated/depressed facebook statuses - big deal.

Also, I'm gay, so unlikely to ever have any kids or grand kids. As for making out with another man, why would that be embarrassing? I kinda hope there comes a time in my life where I do have a boyfriend and the kids in my life see us share a loving kiss here and there.

Dear Grandkids,

I invented gravity control, but those government people took it away from me, and have me under constant surveillance. This may be my only chance to tell you tha

I am about the most paranoid person ever when it comes to cyber security and anonymity, I take no chances. I don't think that anyone is ever going to connect me to my online accounts. Someone might be able to connect one of my accounts to me if they were determined but I don't really care as much about that.
