The earthquake may have been a bit of a non-event, but this is serious. At the moment there's a category 5 cyclone bearing down on the coast. Category 5 is the worst you can get. I've made all the necessary preparations but I'm feeling quite nervous.
People are going crazy. I've heard the shelves in the shops have been ravaged - people buying way more than they need and generally being dicks. The line-up for fuel is astronomical.
My town is no stranger to disaster. We had major disasters in 2011 and 2013. Looks like another is on the way. The waiting is the worst. Estimated time of impact around 9am. It's 7am now. Only 2 more hours. I'll see you on the other side - wherever that may be. :D

Nothing's on the front page about it on any popular news page, so I assume the world isn't over?

Which town are you in Raleigh? My brother and his kids are in Bundaberg and I'm confident they'll be fine (they live in an old house though). My nanna I'm not so sure about since she moved into one of those over 55's villages and I'm not sure how low lying the area is in that part of town.

It's just another winter storm over New England.

While North America get snow storms we get cyclones. We still have another month and a half of the cyclone season left yet, there will be at least another one in March IMO (not neccessarily one that makes landfall though). A Cat 5 cyclone is the equivalent of the highest intensity hurricane. Winds in Yeppoon where it made landfall got up to 250km/hour.

Still here. Cleaned up this morning. Lost the awning off my garage but I think I can deal with that considering some people up north lost houses. The media are still going berserk. The new cry is... Flooding!
Because there's a million ways to die in the South East. :D

I really hope that your area doesn't get flooded.

You got pretty lucky, it sounds like.

At least you came back to say Hello, instead of it being Goodbye!

Me too. Many people here haven't recovered from the last 2 floods.

Thanks kraftie and Amity. The other side's looking pretty good!

blue_bean - As far as I know Bundaberg has come out fairly unscathed. A moderate flood warning has been posted for the Burnett River.

I'm starting to think everyone everywhere in the world is having a weather epidemic except for salt lake city :|

It's been sunny and 60s all month, and it's the middle of f*****g winter.

SouCal weather is "cool and cloudy with a chance of drizzle". Not bad.
