Need advice on getting an apartment for the first time
I have been living at my parents house for along time, I'm 23 and they are the only rental history I have. They didn't even really charge me rent but they said I could say that they did when I'm applying for apartments. My boyfriend and I will be moving in. He has a job that would support us in a $600 apartment. I am currently looking for a job. He has average credit and I have no credit...as far as I know. I'm not even sure if I've checked it the right way. Everytime I try to see if I have credit nothing shows up on the internet. So...I'm pretty sure I have no credit. One lady I called today hung up on me as soon as I told her that my boyfriend smokes cigarettes.
Does anyone have any advice for getting an apartment with these complications on my side? Are there details I should not tell landlords? Like, unnecessary things that I might tell them that could keep them from wanting to rent to us? Cause I do that a lot...my unaware honesty will be the death of me.
