Do you think permanent daylight savings time is a good idea?

To a lot of people, "fall back" is not only annoying , but it also f***s with their mood all winter. That extra hour of sunlight that they are losing after work when it already gets dark earlier is enough to worsen Seasonal Affective Disorder and winter gloom for a lot of people. Because of fall back , the sun can set at 4pm or earlier at some places up north. Personally, I'd rather have the sun rise an hour later than set an hour earlier. The time change has its own pros and cons but for some reason, the government has decided to make the sun set even earlier in the winter. Sure it helps some highschool kids get to school in the light, but other than that its a huge annoyance that makes it harder to get things done in the late afternoon/evening. I think its silly. If I had any say, I'd eliminate the time change and go with the time profile that I thought was superior (permanent daylight savings instead of permanent standard (fall back) time). I'm sure most people would appreciate the extra hour of daylight after work.

I like the Japanese voluntary system where people just agree to get up earlier or later at certain times of the year.

the fall back doesn't bother me, but the spring ahead does. any system where they don't mess with the time, yours included, would be an improvement.

I'd like DST better if it didn't cost me a precious hour of sleep. :tired:

The thing is, you can mess with the time all you want, but it's not going to affect the change of seasons. It's still going to get dark when fall and winter come around, so having permanent DST makes no sense at all.

Absolutely, Positively NO. Congress did exactly that during the Nixon administration, during the first oil crisis, and it was a fiasco, especially when the elementary school kids went to school when it was dark, and retuned home when it started to become dusk.

Why don't the schools just change their hours in the winter if it's such a big problem

Because when you live in a politically corrupt and schizo state like Pennsylvania, the state determines the start and end times of the school day.

Also the corporate software system; not the easiest task, catching 7AM busses in -10 Fahrenheit fog as opposed to subtropical climes.

Why can't people just go with nature? I want the time to stay the same year round.

1. Need I point out the current fracas with the attorney general?

2. Need I also point out the current budget stalemate?

3. Need I also point out that the state legislature is the most expensive in the nation, and rife with corruption?

4. Related to the attorney general's troubles, need I remind you of Porngate?

Me, too. I'm glad that WA people rejected the idea of daylight saving at the last referendum.

I wouldn't even mind the idea of the whole world having the same time as long as it stays the same everywhere and for the whole year.

do away with AM/PM, make it 24 hours and sync everything to Greenwich.
