I've had it with people playing football here... today the police wouldn't even come for about an hour, so I just waited behind the exit door so when the ball hits the gates I take it... it's what I did for the first group, but then inevitably another group sprung out of nowhere and I ended up barely even being able to go back in... I just can't take this anymore... how many more balls shall I collect? I actually haven't had any problems for the past couple of weeks but somehow they came out in droves today...

...sigh...

Omg I'd be so pissed! I don't think the police will do anything though. How about getting one of them mosquito alarms that has a high pitched noise only young people can hear (in theory). Maybe they will get annoyed and stop playing by your place.

If the noise bothers you, I think you would do better with noise cancelling headphones than trying to change their behavior.

Are they playing in the street or on private property? If they are playing in the street and you are going outside in order to take their balls, you are a thief. There is nothing about being irritated by the behavior of others that entitles you to their property.

You may find that they retaliate in some unpleasant way. Poo through the letterbox? Brick through the window? Thump on the back of the head?

In general, it's easier to change your experience by changing yourself than by changing others.

I hope you find a good solution.

I'm not totally sure how much they cost but I'm guessing eBay and Amazon have them.

For some reason your story reminds me of Caddyshack and the competing interests of golfballs.

Mosquito alarms are terrible things, you'll upset young people who are not harming you and potentially get in trouble for creating a noise nuisance worse than the one you want to stop. Stealing their balls is also probably not a good idea, again there are potential legal ramifications.

Have you tried simply asking them?

Thing is though, they are already used outside of some shops. They can be turned on and off. They only make the sound in a small radius, the sound doesn't travel far so shouldn't annoy people unless they are close to the alarm.
The purpose is just to make people not want to stand in the area. I think they are okay to be used personally. Say if you put it outside your house and turn it on during times they tend to play and they might want to play somewhere else.

Today I phoned 101 once so far, spoken to some police who seemed to say nothing to the kids who kept playing anyway with this airtight ball anyway, so then I phoned 999. Should I just give up and commit suicide? Or wage a holy war against the council and stage the biggest protest a single person had ever committed to? I don't know...

What is it, specifically, that bothers you about their playing football outside?

Hm, I wonder what? Perhaps the fact the ball can go fifty feet up in the sky and impact upon any surface?

Is it the sound of that impact or just the idea of it?

Just the act of it. It's horrible, like a beating.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. In what way is people playing football like a beating? Is it in some sensory way, or some conceptual way? Something else?
