No, seriously.
This was only the 2nd time I've dressed up in costume for Halloween since I was a teenager.. and I went all out. I grew my beard for 4 months to be King Leonidas for Halloween and pulled it off quite well. I got a ton of compliments on my costume - but maybe they just liked that I was pretty well only wearing a speedo and a cape. Heh. I went as far as to colour my hair, eyebrows, moustache and beard with black hairspray.
Friday night was "Backdoor, Halloween edition" at the Vancouver Arts & Leisure Centre. It's a 4 room 12,000sf warehouse party w/ a handful of DJ's and a bar.. and some gay stuff. Literally lol. There's one thing about partying with fellow homos: They really go all out on their costumes and makeup! Seriously, there were SO MANY fantastic costumes - like Hollywood quality costumes & makeup. Plus, typically, we have the budget for it since most of us don't have kids to feed. This party should have gone til 7am, but word got out to the organizers that the police would be coming at about 3am to shut it down.. so, being the professional party planners they are (duh, they're also gay - we know how to do this stuff.) they had a few buses parked around the block waiting.. when the cops rolled in, they loaded everyone on buses and took them to a second secret location - a drum studio warehouse that they rent out for underground parties.. not as nicely decorated at all, but still a dj & a bar and a lot of fun people.
After that wrapped up it was off to a couple friends' from the beach's place to chill with them and about 15 others from the party. A couple more drinks and some laughs/chillin with some cute guy friend of theirs. Took a nap then caught a train back to the car I'd borrowed. Sold off the Halloween ticket I'd bought for Celebrities night club because I was informed that it was likely going to be a very straight vs. gay crowd. People suggested a handful of other clubs instead, so I decided to go check out the newest one - Odyssey (v2.0, several miles away from the gay district strip where it used to be years ago. It was pretty good.. only downside was how long the lineup took to get in. Lots of faaaaaabulous costumes there, too. One guy I'd be interested in seeing again asked me for my number.. so I gave it to him. But then a bit later in the night I was going to talk to him again and he brushed me off and said he'd call.. kind of an annoyed negative vibe, so don't really expect him to call me. Ah well.
When that shut down a bit after 3am I took a 10minute walk up to Gorgomish. I'd never been there, either, and have heard good things. It's a bar/club until 2am, then only serves water and redbull until 9am w/ the DJ spinning all night. Tons of super cool costumes here, too. I can see the appeal to an all night after hours dance club with a really cool atmosphere and almost "Las Vegas style" anything goes & what happens at Gorgomish stays at Gorgomish - not unlike the gay warehouse parties and/or gay night clubs. I had a little fun with a cute guy dressed up in a killer Edward Scissorhands costume - who happened to also be a friend of my beach friends. Heh, small world. Then it was off for breakfast around the corner & then to make my way home early this afternoon.
That's how Halloween was so (AMAZINGLY) gay this year. Anyone else go out & party it up over Halloween weekend?

That doesn't sound very fun.. mind you, I've had plenty of low key Halloweens. This year has been totally different, though. I had my costume decided over 4 months ago when I started growing my beard out to be King Leonidas. I just felt like really getting into the spirit of it all. Plus I knew I was going to go party it up with a bunch of homos, just as I did for a week and a half during Pride last Summer for the first time in my life.
..and I'm glad I did. The one guy I gave my number to at Odyssey on Saturday night, who I didn't really have high hopes of hearing from, texted me this afternoon and we had a brief chat and agreed to meet up Thursday evening for a coffee & donut date. I haven't really been one to date anyone, but have been at a bit of a crossroads for quite some time now where I feel like I'd rather do that, and eventually meet the right guy and all that stuff. Sooooo, needless to say I'm looking forward to meeting up with him and getting to know each other a little better. He certainly was intriguing, and his friends spoke very highly of him - good signs so far.
