Who has been?
Who has at least heard of it?

never been to the US, have heard of charleston, but only that there was a big earthquake there & i think, like carolina, it's named after charles II. but not sure
bet there are at least 2 wp members who live in south carolina though..

I've heard of it. It was also mentioned in a documentary I watched once, and this really arrogant bodybuilder arm-wrestling champion came from there. I wanted him to lose all his contests, but the guy just kept winning.... He said "Charleston was smaller than Manchester" at one point, probable, but I didn't take him to be the most educated man, so I don't really know. Is it smaller than Manchester?

according to the QI elves, charleston has a crater on mars named after it & has or had, less than 100,000 inhabitants, so presumably is smaller than manchester..
