Do you find you use either of the two word more?

And

But

It is hard to minimize my "buts".

Though I appreciate your word play , and I am thinking that one word can negate everything said in the beginning of a sentence.

Thanks for your food for thought.

Play
Work
Play
Work
Play
Repeat

Off to work where sometimes I get to play.

I quite often end a spoken sentence with ",but..." and then just trail off to silence. (I suppose the "back-end" of a sentence is a rather appropriate place for a "but"). It's like I get to the end of the sentence, then I realise that I might be wrong, but get stumped for an alternative.

I discovered later, that this is quite a common idiom in some Northern English, Scots and other dialects - a bit like the stoner thing of adding "man" or "dude" to the end of every sentence. It doesn't really mean anything, but.

When I'm struggling for words, I more often stretch out the word that I've got up to before getting stuck - which IIIIIIIIII think maybeeeeeeeeee sounds a bit odd sometimessssssssss. I think I do that more that "um" and "er".

What about "if"?

Isnt it supposed to be "ifs, ands,or buts"?
