Yeah sure if you have ADHD it makes your brain refuse to concentrate on things you do not enjoy. But on things you enjoy you can hyper-focus on. But usually Murphy's law is such that the things you love do not pay the bills. Have you tried a strong cup of coffee to wake your brain up?

I felt like I was insane not being able to concentrate until I was about 20 years old.

edit: no, I take that back, I still feel insane and I think thats just the way that I am...

Was your body very stimulated on that but your mind was not? Like was your heart pounding. That may indicate it was just not CNS selective enough. People get upset when you suggest they try meds but if failing school is the alternative they might be worth a try. Stronger more CNS selective drugs like ritalin might help.

Hi,

Now, this is just MY experience - I appreciate that everyone is different and this may not work for you at all.

I found that taking Prozac helped my concentration (although this was an unexpected positive effect and is not the reason why I took it at all). Changing to a gluten free diet and taking L-Glutathione have also helped my concentration and relieved my generalised anxiety disorder immensely. I also, for the first time in my life, don't feel tired all the time! It's great, I finally feel awake for the first time in 26 years!

As I have found these things so helpful (after many years of various different medications and diets) I thought it might be helpful to some to share this.

But, PLEASE NOTE this is just my experience so if you want to try these you must speak with a suitably qualified and experienced medical professional first, and it may also be helpful to do some research.

I have difficulty concentrating as well. I get distracted too easily by noises or I start thinking about something else.

My concentration has reduced dramatically since I left school. Now I can hardly read a novel

High school, uni and college: I was there in body (sometimes anyway :) ) not mind. Actually, I’ve never felt attached to the physical world at all…I constantly and repetitiously think about what I “like” when I’m happy at the expense of achieving in everything else, or I’m completely at a loss and confused due to anxiety. Nothing else.

I never passed anything past primary school....

My son has concentration problems, as well. We have tried the gluten-free diet, which didn't work for him, and Ritalin, which made him stop eating all together. We finally put him on Strattera, which is a once-per-day med (so it wears off in the late afternoon and doesn't affect his eating habits at night), and it has made a huge difference. Last year, when he was on no meds, his teacher suggested we get him an aide because he couldn't focus long enough to get any classwork done. This year with Strattera, he gets all his classwork done in class. I know drugs aren't always the answer, but for my son, it has made a marked difference.

I have problems concentrating on things I find boring, I suspect ADD, but have never went for a diagnosis.
