I read and loved all the books, and all the movies; I went to the studio tour in England, but I've jumped off the Potter train with this play and book. I have loved Rowling but I think she went back on her word when she said the final book was the final chapter of Harry Potter. She's now milking it dry, as if she doesn't already have enough millions in the bank. Sorry, just my feeling about it, and I was a huge fan. I live in London but I couldn't give a toss about the stage play or the book. I love what we had already and will content myself with those.

I haven't read it and I don't know if I will. It's just the play script. I don't know why she didn't make a novelization of the play instead. I'm not eager to read a play, I want more than just dialogues.
Those of you who did read it, how did you like it?

My sentiments exactly. I was excited to read it and then I opened the first page and... No. Just, no. I don't know why Rowling signed off on this. The story should've been fleshed out a little more and the characters-- my god, who are these people!? I know people change as they get older but this was a little much. It does seem like Rowling is just milking this and I'm quite disappointed. I don't know how I feel about this story becoming canon. Ah well, we still have Fantastic Beasts to look forward to.

I've always been a fan of the HP series, but never a fan of J.K. Rowling, herself. She seems to have a great many insecurities----I know we all have them, but..... I feel the reason she made Dumbledore gay, for instance, was so that she'd be even MORE "worshipped", for being for "gay causes", or whatever. I feel she put the term DADA (Defense Against the Dark Arts) in the sixth book, because she wanted to appeal to the Internet people, who use acronyms, frequently, and with whom she had gotten close by frequenting the HP-devoted websites, etc.; but, I and others HATED it, because it seemed to break the integrity of the books. There are other things I, and others, have noticed, but I can't remember all of them, right now.
I agree that she seems to be milking it----and, I think it's to keep the love and adulation, flowing her way----and, like someone else said, it's not like she needs the money. IMO, after everything died-down, regarding her, she couldn't stand the loneliness, maybe, or whatever, and wanted to bring people BACK to her----though, she DID write other books, the attention she got wasn't NEARLY of the same magnitude.
Aside from the above, I hold the GREATLY unpopular opinion, that she's guilty of plagiarism. The main character of the book she was accused of plagiarizing, was named "Larry Potter" (she sure didn't put much effort into creativity, there), it had Muggles, magic, and other stuff was the same----it was absolutely UNBELIEVABLE how much stuff, was the same. Her telling Katie Couric, et al, that she couldn't POSSIBLY have stolen the idea, because she had all these boxes of details about the characters, creatures, back-stories, etc., doesn't fly with ME, because after she got the idea, OF COURSE she would've developed it. Quite basically, I think she's full of HOOEY!!
I know there's been many, MANY instances of when someone makes-it-big, someone else accuses them of plagiarism, but, to-this-day, I've never seen anything like this----like, all the stuff I read / researched about this, years ago, when it first hit the news. Yes, it's possible she DIDN'T (anything's possible), but.....

Oh yes, I almost forgot about the whole "did-she-or-didn't she" debacle. Haha. I stayed out of it back then but I say anything's possible -- especially after some of the stuff I've seen of hers on Pottermore recently. I don't know for sure if she's guilty of plagiarism, but she sure is guilty of lazy storytelling. I believe she is credited only with coming up with the story of Cursed Child but not of writing the play itself... so I guess that's why it just doesn't feel "right." And it's still beyond me as to why she gave it her stamp of approval. Actually... no, no it's not. You hit the nail on the head: she's trying to stay relevant. And I agree 100% with you on the whole Dumbledore, etc. thing -- it's like she's trying to jump on every popular bandwagon possible. And she's still doing it -- I stopped looking at her tweets and whatever else because she's starting to sound like an advocate mouthpiece for every PC cause under the sun. It's starting to look suspicious. I always loved HP and always will but I have definitely lost whatever respect for Rowling I had. Instead of getting me excited and passionately back into the universe, I feel like Cursed Child just snuffed all the magic right out altogether. :/
Have you read Cursed Child yet? It's an... interesting... read at the very least.

Yeah, I know whatcha mean----she isn't a good writer, AT ALL!! I said that she developed the story, after she stole it; but, frankly, I don't know how she managed it, going-by other things of hers, that I've read. I said on an HP forum, that the 6th book seemed like it had been written by somebody ELSE----like, she gave her notes to her secretary, and her secretary "filled-in". The 7th book, went-back to "normal".

There was something else that was really big (I WISH I could remember what it was)----it was BEFORE the Dumbledore thing----so, when the Dumbledore thing came-out, I was like: "OMG, there she goes, again!!".
Yeah, I agree, about her seeming to make herself a mouthpiece for every social cause, or whatever. She said something about something in another country, and I thought to myself: "That's none of YOUR business"----but, she just HAD TO get her two cents, in there; and, people just eat-it-up----they're like: "Awww, LOOK, J.K. Rowling feels for these people (or, whatever), TOO"----PATHETIC!! I guess all the attention over HP turned her into a narcissist, and now she'll do anything to get more attention----I have no respect for her, EITHER!!
I, TOO, will always remain loyal to the series, though.....

No, I haven't read it. I can't really afford to buy it; but I was, probably, gonna go-ahead and do without toilet paper this month (LOL), and get it----NOW, I'm thinking I should just get it at the library; though, there's probably a waiting list, a mile long.

Hahaha. Well, I don't want to influence your decision there, but maybe it would be better to borrow it from the library or a friend first to see if it's worth the $20-$25 or whatever it is now before buying. Also -- now I don't know how true this is since I haven't seen it from a verified source yet -- supposedly they're publishing a "director's" or "definitive" version next year as this one is the "special rehearsal edition." Don't know if this is real or not but, gauging by the rate at which Rowling is pumping things out, it seems just plausible enough. So...? Perhaps you can just start saving up for it and get the toilet paper instead lol. It should prove more beneficial in the long run. When you do read it, though, I'd certainly be interested to hear your thoughts on it. Personally, I kinda want to forget the Cursed Child events are part of canon because some of the story is just too out there for me. But... that's just me and my little ol' opinion.
