I was watching a commercial for Publisher's Clearing House where they imply they just randomly just give away millions of dollars. They give their website for you to enter their contest with no obligation to buy anything. I am extremely leery of a website that of all things wants your SSN to enter their contest. Do they sell your address on a massive list or do they give your SSN to identity theives? What's their game? They are not just being nice people, they are doing this because they are making money. How?

This is the Aspinator again with the answer I was trying to find in May. I applied to PCH this month out of curiousity. I used an email address I use very infrequently. Since I enrolled for their prize give-away I receive an average of 4-5 emails a day trying to sell me everything imaginable. When I received confirmation I enrolled the email had all of these buttons for gambling sites. I also receive 2-3 emails a day from PCH trying to intice me to enter other sweepstakes they are sponsoring with semi-threatening subject lines. It appears that PCH is interested in getting your email address to sell to others.

It's invariably about selling stuff or wanting you to enroll in courses or whatever - they never give enough free info for one to be able to utilize until you subscribe or pay something.

it is a racket superficially in the form of a lottery or drawing whose operation is paid for by suckers who buy their advertised products. there's a sucker born every minute so there's plenty of money for that and the occasional prize.
