What does it mean to "find validation in yourself"?

People on another forum are telling me abstract stuff like this for advice on how to make up for a mistake I made, but I don't understand what this means and they're not answering my question.

Without knowing the context of your conversation, they likely mean that you need to forgive yourself for your mistake and move on vs. seek some sort of forgiveness or validation from others as it doesn't really matter what they think of your mistake - it matters what you think of it and yourself. It's only your own self forgiveness and actions to move forward that will make one iota of difference to your life, not what others think about it.
