Today's crazy car thought.. IF it's still for sale (extremely likely, the ad is still posted and it's an old convertible fs at the beginning of Winter) AND the guy can show it this wknd AND my Uncle is free to come take a look at it with me AND it all checks out good and worth the asking price.. I might just buy my dad a car for his birthday next week.

Honestly, I really hope it all checks out and I get to do this. My cousin bought her mom a convertible she likes earlier this year - her mom's favourite car, in fact. I can't afford my dad's dream car yet, but it'd be awesome to buy him this one - a convertible version of his first car. But keeping up with the Joneses is far from my reasons for wanting to do this. One, I only have the money because my parents charge me cheap rent and I've been able to save/invest. And two, much more importantly, my dad's going through a 2nd round of chemo treatments for cancer right now & if I can give him something to look forward to when the Sun comes out next year chances are pretty good that he'll heal up better. That would be worth every penny and then some.

And since I'm gonna do it IF the stars align and all those conditions are met, I'm going to get the money in motion within the next 24H so I'll be able to withdraw it and pay cash for it next week. If it's not a go, meh, oh well I'll just keep the money.

*fingers crossed* that I have to solve the problem of where to hide a car for a few days before his birthday! :P

Frustrating.

I emailed the seller to see if they can show the car this Fri/Sat/Sun, and they replied and said yes.

Called my uncle who's a retired mechanic to see when he's free and he's free all day Sunday.

emailed back to arrange for Sunday and the response was "Fri is better." I replied and said my mechanic was free all day Sunday to have a look with me and now haven't heard a response - even though I emailed again and said I could come solo and check it out Friday and then have my mechanic take a closer look Sunday if necessary.

Maybe the seller is just busy or not very good at communicating, but it seems a bit suspect that at first mention of a mechanic looking the car over they stop replying.

Nonetheless, I emailed again this morning to see if they're available to show the car today or Sunday and let them know that I don't just want to have a look - if the car checks out I'm prepared to make an offer on it.

I guess time will tell if they get back to me or not. The money's already in motion.. I do want this car to be good and I do want to buy it. But I can't if they won't let me! Ha, weird of someone who's been trying to sell a car for two months not to be all over a serious inquiry..

Well, it's now Noon on Sunday.. when I'd proposed we'd come look at the car.. and still no response to my emails from Thurs/Fri/Sat & this morning trying to see if there's a time we can come view the car.

Maybe the seller is elderly and not an emailer? Or some other very poor online communicator? I just hope they haven't stopped replying because I said I want to bring a mechanic with me to check out the car.

Seems weird, though.. you'd think if you were selling something online for thousands of dollars that you'd reply to your emails at least once a day. WTF?

Even though exactly zero people here care about this I figured I'd post the conclusion. Buddy was emailing back and forth with me to arrange a time to show the car, then stopped emailing. He finally replied and said the car is sold. Damn. I'd have bought it. Ah well.
