My New Apartment!

I found my new apartment today and I think I'll sign on the weekend. I am moving from 3.5 to studio, saving me $250/mo.

I have a question for all of you - please! Do you know anything about covering or changing the color of a cement heated floor?

At the moment it is painted 2 ugly shades of mustard as far as the kitchen, then bilious green to the windows.

It has many advantages, which I'll tell you about later, but what to do with the floor? A heated floor feels good; the heat rises from underneath. So the rental agent said that we're not supposed to use carpets. Then backed off and said "Some people do." But I wouldn't want to break the rules on Day 1.

Any thoughts on how to change the colour of such a cement floor without blocking the heat?

Couldn't you just paint it a more pleasing colour?

They make stains and other finishes. You need to run this by them and carefully read your lease… I would probably throw a rug on it and live with it; being a rental. Rather than risking pissing off your landlord!

I doubt it. I googled 'how to paint cement' and it sounds like something only a pro could do - they keep saying 'epoxy' like the rest is all prep.

Linoleum - wouldn't that just melt from the heat under the floor?
Sisal - I'll have a look at that - I haven't seen sisal in a long time.

At least my rugs are small 4x6. Everything I own is temporary - of course, never piss off the landlord! Maybe a great idea will come when/if I calm down.
