Do you react to hiccups like you do a loud noise?

I hate hiccups because if I get them they make me jump each time, like a sudden loud noise would. I anticipate inbetween hiccups and I just hate it. I hate having hiccups so much that I either take a deep breath and hold it for a minute, or drink down a glass of water or juice.
I also hate it when I swallow too much food (like potato or bread) and it gets clogged in my throat, and suddenly I'll do a hiccup. Or when I drink cold soda too fast.

Anyone rather sensitive to hiccups?

Hiccups don't make me jump but, if they continue on an on, they certainly hurt. The only way I can get rid of them is to drink water.

The sound of hiccups doesn't bother me. I just hate the felling of having them. When I get them they last 20 minutes to half an hour & drinking water & holding my breath doesn't help. The only things I found that help is preventive like taking Pepcid or Protonix before meals(which I do every day because of GERD) & being on the antipsychotic Haldol/Haloperidol; it's used to prevent hiccups sometimes but that's not why I take it. My girlfriend's hiccups are loud but she only does one at a time & she does it alot.

I don't mean the sound of hiccups making me jump, I mean the feeling of a hiccup.

I literally can't do anything else until I get rid of them. I usually hold my breath until they're gone. Mostly my first try gets them. However, I become very agitated if it takes more than 2-3 minutes to get rid of them. It's awful.

I hate having that feeling. After the 10th hiccup, I'm jumping and wishing they would stop.

If my hiccups go on too long, I start thinking of that poor guy in the Guinness Book of World Records who had the hiccups for 60 years!

I don't know. It must have driven him nuts. It drove his first wife nuts, too because she divorced him. He was also unable to keep his dentures in. That must have been a miserable life!
