I found it. I found the black plastic round thing they stuck into the molding outside my front door. It has little windows which would register the change in light when the door opens. It would register a signal somewhere. Which would finally explain and give credence to my belief that somebody pops out of somewhere every time I open my door. Now I can tell them to cut it out.

Why would they be watching? Because they don't want me to isolate. It's legal, being on their side of the door. But the consistency with which somebody pops right up every time I take out the garbage is giving me heebie-jeebies.

Of course, once the door is open, then they can track the hall-cams etc. Of course, from their point of view, this is part of "We take care of you." I stuck it in a pocket in my walker and it can come with me now.

"They" are the people who run this apartment building, which is really a Foundation with tenants age 55+ (like me).
They don't provide food or meds or nurses - independence, see? But there comes a time in old age when one's comings and goings make no sense, could even be dangerous. Mom had Asperger's and became a "missing person" often enough.

So what they're trying to do is leave us our independence as long as possible, by sneakily noticing when we go out and sending somebody to "happen" to run into us and have fun together. At least, I think that's the idea.

But I don't like to be considered in need of watching.

ah, i think i understand now.

i wouldn't trust or allow anyone else to label my comings and goings as "nonsensical", though even at my age they probably already are. :jester: at least, until the point where it does become dangerous, as it did with your mother.

i take offense when my independence is compromised. and i seriously don't get "offended" often.

have you talked to them about it?

Good heavens, kip, you're 19! It's different when you're 66 and a half and recovering from a concussion. Once I fell and couldn't get up, had to roll across the room to the phone; "they" came and got me into a chair. Although that didn't involve going out.

If it wasn't for posh half-way places like this, many of us tenants would have to go into residence.

I'm really leaving because I got suddenly poor. I'm going to a similar place at $200 less rent.

At age 19, you'd be right to be offended - if you fall, you can get up!
