This weekend, I came upon the Royalcam livestream of the New Zealand Department of Conservation, which is a webcam livestream set up near a royal albatross nest at Taiaroa Head near Dunedin, NZ. I find it very soothing to look at these majestic birds care for their chick. It hatched only a week ago.

Shortly after hatching, the chick began to weaken due to flies laying their eggs on it. It was then quickly taken to a shelter for treatment and observation. In the meantime, the parent birds were given a foster chick to take care of instead. Now, the chick has recovered and was reunited with its parents.

Another interesting livestream is the Audubon Puffin Loafing Ledge, situated in Maine.

I don't know if anyone here on WP can identify the other species of auk that shows up on the ledge from time to time, the ones that have long black bills. I want to say they're razorbills.

Beautiful, and a very clear image. I've been to Dunedin and saw the Yellow-eyed Penguins on the Otago Peninsula, but didn't see the Royal Albatrosses.

Although I'm a republican and not a monarchist, I approve of this royal family.

As I'm looking at it now, yes, there's a Razorbill there along with one puffin. The other species that might be seen would be a Common Murre (Guillemot), but they are much more slender.

I caught a Razorbill once, with my own two hands. I can attest to the accuracy of its name.
