I like arcade games but I found that at least in my personal experience as a kid that arcades tended to attract a bad crowd, same with skate parks. The movie theater(it's way more than that) has one near my parents house but it's kind of an overstimulating environment into terms of the people, noise, lights.

I never played them much but I do play some arcade games that were made for counsel game systems .

I have one near me and have been a couple of times. I really enjoy it. It's a lovely atmosphere - very casual. None of the 'rough' crowd because it's not their thing, so I feel very comfortable and safe there. You can go from playing on the machines to just sitting on a sofa having a chat, and they have a little bar area and lots of sweets for sale. A great place to spend a day, and if it were just a little easier to get to I would probably go very frequently.

There is a discount movie theater around here that also has arcade games--you might check out the theaters in your area.

I love arcades. Shame that they're nearly extinct practically everywhere, especially here in Finland. Haven't seen a single one in a decade at least.

The only arcade I've ever been to was at a bowling alley near my house. We used to go on field trips there and spend all afternoon in the arcade. It was really awesome. I was really good at Skee Ball. 8)

I never really see arcades anywhere else now, though. That makes me kind of sad.

I rarely, if ever, went to one. I did pretty good playing pinball but, as another poster said, arcades seemed to attract a bad crowd and were a magnet for gang activity. I didn't feel safe going into those places. I wasn't good at most of the games, except for pinball and Pac-man.

There's one near me, down by the beach. I've only been in once (too noisy and bright for me) but I kind of like that it's there. :) They appeal to me.

There are still plenty of arcades at the seasides here. The games usually aren't brand new but they're still pretty good. I'm quite fond of the Mario Kart Arcade GP series.

There's an arcade at the mall where I live but I don't go in it much. It's mostly games you play to win tickets to trade in for cheap stuffed toys and other lame prizes. One time I got up the courage to go inside a hurricane simulator machine. It was really windy, but not that scary. No worries about my home being completely destroyed, not knowing where I'll be sleeping tonight, and not being able to find my cats. :)

I've played arcade games on consoles and enjoy them. I have only played actual arcade games once on a ferry when I was 9, and I hated playing when people watched me playing and being vocal about me going left and right in the game. I actually just left the game before my time was up, because that just wasn't for me. I would hate being watched while playing even more now.
I'm a solitary gamer, so no.

Yeah I was just thinking the other day 'where have all the arcades gone?' Most probably went to retail store heaven along with the Blockbusters and Mervyns of the world.

It was a fun time back in the day. Some of the video games cabinets were pretty creative like the Terminator 2 arcade that had a full size replica UZI you aimed with if I remember right. The last time I went to one was in LA, most of the video games were dancing and guitar hero. And the common games like skiball and hoops and air hockey.

They are still scattered about, but not proliferate as they were decades ago.

Is that like the device you see from the contests where the wind machine has money and you have to grab as much as you can while it flies about?

Yes I miss them. I was obsessed with pinball and one machine in particular. I got so I could beat it regularly and get a lot of replays. No video game can match that feeling of whacking a pinball and the sounds of the machine.
