I read what figure out mean. Something about discover or find out. Why would someone want you to? What is the point to it? I don't hear that term a lot and had to look it up.

You are obviously not a native speaker of English.
The phrase "to figure out" means to "solve a problem", or "decifer something" or to "use your own ingenuity to make something puzzling understandable".
