What do you remember about the year 2009? I remember there was a debate about what to call the next year. "twenty ten" or "two thousand ten"? I remember the song "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga being a hit song.

Rafael Nadal won the AO for the first time. I hope this year he wins his second-and his 15th Slam overall, passing Pete Sampras.

My dog, Partner, passed away in October at the approximate age of thirteen. He was a pitbull/Lab mix, and we adopted him as an adult. We estimate he was two at the time and he lived with us exactly 11 1/2 years.

Our youngest set of feral cats was born.

That year was pretty terrible all around. My mother was fighting cancer, my sister has M.S. and my life was pretty much in a holding pattern and trending downhill.

The movie Avatar came out. Broke box office records. (I know it came at the end of the year, but it still started in 2009)

Barack Obama starts his term in office as U.S. President.

I was missing my dog terribly, and my turtle gave me comfort (but died the year after). It was the year I was officially diagnosed, and the year I became part of the first place (an online community) where I felt a sense of community.

I have no idea what books, movies, games or news events took place that year.

I passed my A levels with flying colours and got accepted to university. I was so glad to get away from school after seven years of nonstop bullying and harassment, sometimes from people I didn't even know.

I was trying to cultivate an emo look (despite hating emos) to fit in. In the end I decided to be myself and not conform to any "trendy" standards.

It snowed so heavily on my birthday I couldn't get to school, giving me more time to play the games I'd got :)

I got heavily into Repo! but my number one fandom was still Lazytown, which had taken over from Mario in October of the previous year.

I remember 2009! I was in fifth grade. :D

I had transferred to a new school from the one I'd been going since kindergarten, and it was this teeny-tiny private Catholic school, and this was a big public school where there were like, two hundred kids in my grade! 8O

I think that was my favorite school year, though, because I was friends or on good terms with everyone in my class. 8) There weren't any bullies, and even if they were, they weren't a big deal.

I also remember Justin Bieber being a big craze, and people freaking out when I said I didn't know who he was.

That was also when a lot of people my age started having phones, but it was still considered "cool" and "special" to have a smartphone.

Everyone my age watched Youtube, but I didn't, 'cause I was too busy reading Pokemon fanfiction.

2009 is the year I lost both my step-father (to cancer) and my dad (to suicide).
It was a very sad year for me.

I was in the first grade! It was the year I played my first video game, (I knew Hannah Montana was from Disney, so I made a Kingdom Hearts outfit and Keyblade for her. 8O ) Kidz Bop was still good, and summer that year was scorching. But I did get picked on a hecka lot, which sucked. And it was before my cousin went down the wrong road. :(

The economy was in a depression. Stores had 70 to 80 percent off signs all over the place. The major thought of mine was "what the f**k went wrong"

Lily Allen had a song "f**k You". Synthpop made a big comeback with female singers the aforementioned Lady Gaga, Little Boots and La Roux who looked and sounded like she walked right out of 80's New Wave video

My parents yelled at me for 2 hours on my birthday. It was the 3rd consecutive birthday that I got yelled at on, so I decided to stop celebrating it.

I had a teacher who helped me realise that I was actually good at reading, and my reading just took off from there on.

I got a pet fish.

I won a calander artwork contest.

I won 2 stuffed penguins in a coin toss game.

It was one of the last times when my parents ever picked me up ('cause I was getting too big).

Though there were ups and downs, I consider it the best year of my life so far.

Was 22; moved out of Seattle, and back to my home town. It was a good year; I went on many journeys, and went to L.A. for the first time. :D

That was a pretty tough year for all of us.

I really started getting into Rafael Nadal that year. I stuck with him even though 2009 was a terrible year for him following AO. I'm glad I did. I also started liking fellow Spanish players David Ferrer and Juan Carlos Ferrero. I have a thing for Spanish tennis players, even though I'm not Spanish.

In 2009 I was diagnosed with cancer and was successfully treated, but 3 weeks after the surgery I was laid off from a job I had had for almost 10 years. I was given a prescription for anxiety. Eventually I found another job (there was fortunately a lot of job openings in government contracting at the time, and my skills were in demand).

Ironically, I made more money in 2009 than any other year of my life, despite the fact that it always seems the worst recent year of my life (1986 may have been worse, for different sorts of reasons, but that was a long time ago).

Ahh... good times... anyways, I was obsessed with superheroes, the internet was mostly new for me, and the atmosphere was bright!
