Do any of you have something considered a non mainstream pet? I consider cats, dogs, fish, and birds pretty mainstream. When I moved I couldn't keep my cat. Eventually I got a pet hedgehog and yes my son named it something geeky. Well ok gamer geeky.

I used to have pet ducks - they were great fun and laid eggs and kept the grass short

When I worked on the fishing boat, I kept a spider crab as a pet for the day.

I want the orange frogs in Manchester Museum/ But I think they're endangered or something and I doubt they'd give them to me anyway... :?

Yes though I told him it should be Sonique as it's female. :-)

I wanted one too and might of been able to have one here as it's considered a cage pet though it does come out and will go on a leash. Someone else here had a rabbit for awhile which also can go on leashes it seems. But the problem was medical costs of keeping one. Apparently they cost quite a bit to treat and need more regular treatment than a cat or dog.

I used to keep saltwater fish. I actually made a $10 profit from buying a bamboo shark egg, hatching it, and selling thje infant shark back to the petstore (I only had a 20 gallon tank, the minimum size needed for one shark is 120 gallons, and I find this too small). I had cool looking angel fish (Centropyge potteri) , a psychedelia mandarin fish, Various gobies, and a hellion of a maroon clownfish. That clownfish HATED me! I still have scars from when she attacked me. When she was still a male (they change sex, all clownfish start as male, but not all stay that way), he was gentle and a little afraid of me. When he changed sex, SHE was a raging b***h, and never hesitated to attack my hands, and often left me bleeding. She killed all but two of her tankmates, including the mandarin fish (which is highly poisonous). I had to shut the aquarium down because of cash flow problems two years ago. I want to eventually set-up another aquarium, on much, much larger than before.

In addition to snakes, I've also kept rats, hamsters, turtles, lizards, salamanders, toads, and tarantulas.

I've always thought those emerald pythons were really pretty.
