Southern accents are stigmatized for sounding "uneducated" or even "redneck", etc. But some Southern accents have such a Royal, almost Aristocratic sound to them, its really amazing how it could be such a paradox.

That drawling Southern voice makes you think of a life of leisure, and gentility.

I have a sampling of my grandmother talking to Miss Janey, and I think this my all time favorite recording of two refined Southern women talking.

Ever since I learned that there is a distinction between Southern American and Northern American accent, I have loved the southern variant. It is so American!

my fave southern-type accent would be west-Virginian, there is just something so singsong/musical about it.

I have no problem with Southern accents. My grandma and my alcoholic uncle both speak with Southern accents.

There are different types of southern accents. I have problems understanding southerns who talk really fast like Boomhoure from King Of The Hill.

But I like Georgia accents like Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland

Absolutely nothing; some people just attribute it to a group they have problems with.

I agree. I recall meeting a famous Aspie a few years ago and she called my grandma an "uneducated cowgirl." :x
