I will never understand why women put so much effort into morning and nighttime beauty regimens like putting on cream makeup and all this other crap like wrinkle reducers and anti-aging treatments. WHY ?!?! Society has diluted us all into believing we are ugly without makeup or that we HAVE TO put makeup on every single day or that we HAVE to always look young and skinny or we are losers. I think it's a total waste of energy and there are many other things we could be worrying about other than how old we are and if we have stupid wrinkles. Aging is natural. Get over it. Ok rant over....anyone else feel the same way?!?!

I don't understand it, either. Weight loss regimes are also a mystery to me.

I wish they wouldn't put so much effort into that. It's kinda false advertising in a way cuz they don't look like that naturally & if you live with a woman who does that you'll probably see her without it.

Actually I do the facial creams because I need a moisturizer especially in the winter. I need to put more lotion on my hands because they get really dry too and I neglect them for some reason - I think its because its hard to do anything with a bunch of lotion on my hands - messy and it gets on everything and I wash my hands too much anyway (which is why they are dry). Im a mess.

Appearance matters, the nicer you look, the more opportunities you will have, its just human nature, first impressions tend to last and are largely based on physical appearance. If you are lucky you can succeed without the additional help from make up and beauty regimens, but I prefer to blend in, rather than draw more negative attention so I will put on the war paint like the rest of them, as in its a culturally normal thing to do here. (Im not referring to the extremes of beauty regimens, which are of course ridiculous, but more so basic skincare)

I have to say about 10 yrs ago I wasn't into the facial moisturizers and all, but since I've been using them I actually have no wrinkles and I'm not a spring chicken. Of course, I also don't smoke and stay out of the sun - I don't try to tan - it causes cancer. I look about 10 yrs younger than I really am.

What I'd like is a cream that helps treat redness and rough skin texture, but they're always anti-wrinkle creams built in as well which I don't want. I'll use a little bit of facial moisturizer when the roughness gets too much but that's it. I never wear makeup on a daily basis.

Most women do that sort of thing because it makes them feel better about themselves, especially if they do indeed have poor skin without it all.

Yes, me. :) I don't wear make-up, moisturize (apart from my eczema), remove my body hair, dye my hair, none of that. It takes up far too much time and money, and I don't see why I should have to. The only thing I do is straighten my hair, because I like to.

It worries me that some women feel they don't look nice without make-up on. I personally think most people look better without it. You can see it sitting on their skin, looking false and strange.

All I would go with is some lipstick and mascara, and yes appearance does matter! (At least to me, but unless your an old person I could give you a makeover to feel really amazingly pretty! )

I understand, for work I must look presentable, but at least the weekends are my own. Last year I didnt put enough effort into my appearance and female colleagues started to make comments... limiting how much I stand out is more important to me than my thoughts about why we cover up our skin.

I get that, I do. :) I just find it frustrating that women are considered unpresentable without a whole load of chemicals on our faces. Men aren't told the same.

Regarding dry skin on women - I think they have allergies.

Women are told that dry skin is normal for women. It isn't. They are reacting to something.

I wouldn't do something I hated unless it somehow benefited me or was required. I think often times people feel better when they feel they look better so it's understandable why someone might put themselves thru some of these things.

Too much makeup is unattractive

Woah I'm so happy to see so many of you participating in this discussion! Thanks for commenting. Love reading the responses!

The thing I absolutely cannot stand is when my mom tries to push all these products on me and literally attacks my face with creams like she'll just come up to me and smear crap all over my face and it triggers my tantrums and just makes me feel soooo uncomfortable. Then when I tell her to stop and go away she starts this long and annoying lecture and gets all sad bc I'm not like "normal" girls who share the love of beauty products with their moms. Who says all women do anyway?!

I don't really wear make-up at all, I wash my face and if I get any pimples I'll put acne cream or whatever on it.
