If you run out of dry food, can you just give can food?

I do, and my cat hugs me extra that day, because he likes canned food, and he gets it only on special occasions or on days when I forgot to buy dry food.

Can I give 2 cans to my cat? The cans are small. I ordered dry food & more can food today.

Tree House, a cat shelter in Chicago where my daughter volunteered, recommended only feeding canned cat food. She feeds her cat mostly canned food with some crunchies on the side. My vet said either dry or canned or both is fine.

Is it a very big cat? My cat is medium to large, and eats 2/3 of one regular size can in a day. However, he is old, so his metabolism might be slower than a young cat. At the same time, he exercises a lot during the day, because his favorite sleeping spot is in a sleeping loft. He climbs his cat tree to get up.

You could maybe give the kitty one can and see if he/she eats it before the end of the day?

I would start with one can, and if she is still hungry, one and a half....

Does your cat have a vet? The vet might be able to give you a more definitive amount, based on her weight, height, and body mass index. Then you can be sure that she's not going to become obese, but she'll get enough nutrients.
