not as much as it annoys me when people say caramel like care-am-el instead of car-mal.

No. It's a common pronunciation where I live, despite being incorrect.

I don't know anybody who pronounces it like that, and I live in Texas. I am not bothered by non-conventional pronunciations.

Remember, we're the state that brought you George W. Bush...kinda.

No, language is naturally fluid and inherently subjective. There's no reason it need be pronounced "lie-brar-ee" aside from that it's how most people pronounced it when they put it in the dictionary.

People around here pronounce it as it's spelled. I still have a bit of difficulty and often find myself saying "librararary"...

I don't recall hearing it pronounced that way.

Here's something that might blow your mind. I just found out that Seuss as in Dr. Seuss, is supposed to be pronounced "Zoice". According to the author.

It drives me crazy. Why do people do that?

"Lie barry..."

I remember my best friend in elementary school always said "lie barry" and it drove me bonkers.
Didn't help that our favorite place to hang out was at the "lie barry."

Nope.

Despite knowing that it's wrong, I don't pronounce library properly. I find it really difficult to pronounce that quickly in conversation. It would sound like I'd slowed the word down if I tried.

I say 'lie-bree'.

That actually makes me giggle.

It does bother me when people say "realitor".
Where the hell does the "i" come from?!

Really? Was he German?

I guess I could look that up, but it's nice to have conversations.

I've been hearing it pronounced that way my whole life, I don't care really. What is more annoying is when people go overboard with flowery pronunciations and sound pretentious like every person who tries to say mozzarella like an Italian person.

It annoys me to no end. I work at the library and heard people pronouncing it that way, including someone who worked at the front desk.
