A misconception about service dogs that I've seen is that all service dogs are for the blind, and if someone that's not blind has a dog with them, it's not a legitimate service dog.

I suppose that people get the most exposure to service dogs for the blind, so it never occurs to them that people can have service dogs for other reasons. And it also never occurs to them that other animals can be service animals too, because they've probably never heard of another animal being a service animal.
