Cats may sleep a lot, but it's not because they're lazy. That is a natural misconception in our society that thinks sleeping in general is bad and a waste of time. Cats sleep a lot during the day because they originally came from a part of the world where it's to scorching hot to do much of anything so they sleep until dusk when it gets cooler. also their prey is nocturnal, so dusk is when they would start hunting. They may not need to do this as house cats but it's how nature made them.

Of course, if an animal sleeps more than usual, I get concerned because it could be because they're bored, sick or even depressed.

first, it's normal they sleep a lot, but second, it's true that they got lazy; i don't want no cat anymore for that reason, the petfood is full of ###(80%cereals!)
and it prives them of the drive to go hunting, living in the country there's plenty to do, but no you get these crazy window-hangers of cats, they s**t in your plantbeds against the house all the time and don't do anything that makes sense.

Our guinea pig mostly eats & sleeps. He spends alot of time just laying down or half laying but there isn't a whole lot he can do in a cage thou he does have things to play with & chew on. We sometimes let him out when I clean his cage & he'll mostly stay in one area cuz he's too afraid. He does run when we try to pick him back up thou. He's pretty timid.

One of my cats could certainly do with being a bit more active, actually a little worried about her weight. Her ways are so ingrained with her cuddly, friendly personality, though.

My calico cat was lazy a few years before she died because she quit burying her s**t in the litter box or in the ground, and a year before her death, she quit taking care of herself so she was all covered in furballs and her fur was filthy and her color was faded. Plus she pooped all over the deck than doing it out in the grass or dirt.

Lazy dogs are a good thing. My dog just sacks out on the couch in front of the TV, which is much preferable to barking, howling, getting into things, tearing things up, etc when I'm gone all day.
