I absolutely hate the feeling of having freshly-cut fingernails, myself.

I always have, they just feel so raw for the next couple of days afterwards.

Yuck!

Surely I'm not the only one?

I finish off the cut edges with a nail file.

On the contrary, I need to cut my nails very short because I hate the feeling of long nails and cannot stand the look of the visible whites.

What effect does that have?

The freshly cut sensation goes away in minutes for me. I use nail clippers. Maybe your problem is that you use scissors.

On a scale of 1 to 10.. about 38... for the entire day
I bite them, this causes no problem.

It rounds off the edges.

I'm a bit obsessed with the look and cleanliness of my nails. I hate it when my nails grow to different lengths and sometimes when they get long they painfully break. So when they get long and ragged I clip them. I'm glad I never developed the habit of biting my nails.

Of course, when I was a little girl my mom would usually clip my finger and toenails after I had a bath, and I hated it, especially my toenails, and a struggle would ensue. And she'd cut my fingernails so short that trying to peel an orange afterwards was unpleasant. :(

You're definitely not alone. I sometimes cut my fingernails right before going to bed so that I don't have to be conscious for the first 8 or so hours of the unpleasant sensation. It takes about a day or two before it goes away completely for me.

I keep my nails short, doesn’t bother me… I usually forget to cut them though and realize it when I rip them on something I am working on. Then I end up cutting them with a knife, I should really keep clippers in my bag.

Actually, it feels good to get rid of the rough edges on my fingernails.

It is an unpleasant sensation to me as well but filing my nails feels 10 times worse.

Then don't cut them so short. My mum used to cut my nails too short when I was a kid and I know exactly what feeling you are referring to. It feels weird. I don't cut mine too short now.

I hate that sensation. It even bothers me to see people with nails that don't even hang over the end of their fingers. I usually keep my nails fairly long (for a guy at least) and cut them gradually so that the sensation is diminished.
