For the past few days during my lunch break walk I've stumbled across the most beautiful blue jays. Although I'm really not much of a bird watcher I've been really impressed. Such vibrant color seems so out of place - everything is so bland here in Philadelphia.

When I was a kid my family had a pet blue jay named Jayson..it was a fledgling that fell from it's nest before it had learned how to fly. We fed it cockroaches, cat food and bird seed...it was relatively tame and sorta warbled like it was trying to talk like a mocking bird....It would hop right into your hand (that is how my mom caught it)...When it got older we sent it to live at a bird sanctuary a friend of the family had....it was there that they figured out she was a girl and called her Baby Jay...She hung out there for a while and had a few nests of eggs...before gradually integrating back into the wild.

All of the crow family is great.

But I sure do miss blue jays.
