I'm currently being weaned off of Effexor XR (150) and I'm at 75 mg now soon to be at 37.5 mg.

Lately, I've been very rude and coarse with people. Very angry and explosive (more so than usual). I even snapped at my father-in-law.

My question is, could a a withdrawal symptom of doming down from Effexor be a dysphoia and be more prone to anger and hostility and one's fuse shortened from three inches to half an inch?

Do they still do lobotomies?

I've heard that effexor has terrible withdrawl symptoms, and I'd be careful about it.

Sure you knew that already, though.

Almost anything can be a withdrawal symptom from effexor, it's a supremely bizarre and unpleasant drug to get off of. Effects can be both physical and mental, and are almost always different. Once when I ran out, I became suicidal. Another time it was more like weird feelings in my head. If you look around online, you'll find lots and lots of stories about effexor withdrawal. Occasionally, it's completely impossible to get off of, but I think that's incredibly rare.

Effexor and I did not get along - to quote the words of another... "it's a hell of a drug." I was violent and confused, irrational when I was on it as well as coming off of it.

Uh, Effexor is a treatment for bi-polar disorder. It probably isn't psychoactive and it probably doesn't cause fits of manic depression and rage.

Let me know how things go, fellas!

Uh, no, it's an SSNRI given for depression with an anxiety component, and, as stated above, has quite a host of possible effects from discontinuation, including emotional extremes. I had it better than a lot of people; for me it was mostly "brain zaps," agitation, and nausea.

You're lucky your dose has only been reduced and not stopped abruptly and this is all you're feeling. For years now I've been taking Effexor, sold under the name Venlafaxine, and the Discontinuation Syndrome symptoms sound terrifying. Brain shocks. What is with the brain shocks? Does my brain think it's Frankenstein?? When I wasn't able to take my Lorazepam last week for only two days it was bad enough, so I'm really afraid of running out of Venlafaxine.

I hate these drugs because of their side effects and the constant reminder that I'm mentally unstable, but can't go off them because of the withdrawl and need them just to feel as "normal" as I ever get.. And I always gave to worry about not running out or taking the doses at the right time. Lose-lose. :(
