I feel very sad about this. Over the past few months I've noticed some "off" things about my mail. First it was just a flap would be lifted, where someone could peek in. My parents thought I was paranoid. But then it got more and more. Where more of it would be open. I order free samples all the time. LOTS of them. It keeps me busy, and it saves my family money. A lot of them haven't been showing up recently. ones where on free sample forums, everyone is saying they received them. And walmart Samples. I hate walmart, but I love the free samples, because they *ALWAYS* come, and fast. Several haven't. My mail supply has severely dwindled. I'd be getting several pieces a day. now there comes a day when i'll have no mail. Anyway, the other day, my parents got a piece of mail from a friend. It was obviously wide open, most likely with a letter opener. Then today a walmart sample came. They always have a little clear sticker on the box, and info about the product and usually coupons inside. one end of the box looked like someone had tried to get into it, the other end had no sticker, was already loosened, and no coupons or product info.

sorry for such length. Anyway, it *has* to be the mailman. In my neighborhood there is a section with big grey boxes, and everyone has a locked mailbox there. He's the only one besides my family who can get in. My parents are going to complain to the post office.

I feel so sad and angry that they are doing this. My stepdad got really worked up. He said it's "blatantly obvious." he seemed very angry. I feel like crying.

:(

call the post office and tell them, provide evidence and say that if they don't do something about it, you will call the police. its a federal crime to fiddle with someone else's mail.

Stealing mail is an offence in a lot of countries that I am aware, inform the Post Office AND the police, the postal worker doing this could lose his/her job over it as well

Or instead of telling on him, you could just leave him a letter with "TO THE MAILMAN" written on it, and inform him that you'll tell on him if he doesn't stop. He probably will, and it's less trouble for everyone.

wigglyspider has a good suggestion, but it's not a requirement to do this, merely an option. I tend to be a perfectionist. I need to remind myself, don't need to be so perfect, don't need to excel.

So, take some medium action, get some feedback, and go from there.

It's good that you have your Dad behind you.

Yeah...where "is" a pitbull when you really need him?! I had to get a Post Office Box because my postman is a drug addict. I don't trust him in "any" capacity. I complained about him but they won't fire him. Now, in your case, someone who lived at your home before may have a key to the box...or someone can actually open the box with their key. It could be a neighbor.
When you move into a house, I learned that it is "up to you" to change the locks and the lock on your mailbox as well. This woman lived across the street from me. Her friend lived down the street. She entrusted the friend to feed her dog when she went on a business trips. The friend duplicated the key. The woman moved out and the friend robbed the new people just by walking right through the front door after opening it up with the key! Never assume a realtor changes locks. They don't! If you EVER lose a key and someone returns it even after 20 minutes, they may have made dupicates. I'll tell you a story. I found a key in my bathroom closet shortly after I moved into my house. It didn't open any door in the house. So I kept it where I found it for no reason whatsoever. I had a plumber come to fix my sink and when he left the key was gone. After aboutten months, I was sitting on my couch on my day off only to watch "someone who strongly resembled him but was younger" stand on my step trying to open my door with a key that didn't open it. I called the cops but they didn't get him.

Call the postal service and complain. The police can't do anything -- it's a federal issue.

Those cluster-type mailboxes are very easy to break into. It could be someone besides your mailman who is doing this. In fact, those things are so easy to break into that if you can't wait for the mailman every day and pick up your mail just as soon as he has left, then I would recommend that your family get a post office box. Samples today, IRS refund checks tomorrow.
