I remember once I was at the bar with some of my friends. At the club I was talking with a group of my friends and this stranger said to one of my buddies "move out of the way before I hit you"

What do you think could have possessed the stranger to say that to my friend? I stood in the way by accident of the stranger and he didn't say anything to me.

My former friend is ginger, 5ft10 and at the time he must have only weighed max 154 pounds so maybe that's why he was picked on?

It doesn't matter.
Drink impairs judgement. There may have been no reason at all for it.
Not everything has reason. We are a chaotic species.

Maybe there was something about your friend's looks that he didn't like.
