Earlier this afternoon I was watching some birds out my kitchen window. I think they were mourning doves, but I'm not sure. The coloration looked right, but they seemed a little skinny. It seemed odd that they were sitting there for so long. Then I realized what was going on.
It was a mother and father bird teaching their two babies how to fly. The backyards here are separated by these privacy fences which are spaced about 12 feet apart. And the mom and dad were flying back and forth between my fence and the next one, teaching their two kids how to fly. They would fly across and wait, and the kids would sit there and stretch out their wings and think about it and flap a little, and then they flew across. Then mom and dad would fly back and repeat it.
It was really amazing to see. Just thought I'd share.
