It will probably still take some time, because some of us still prefer them to cards, but they are certainly in decline.
Personally I am always anxious when using cards in stores, I remain anxious until it goes through. It's fine online, because even if something goes awry, I don't have to answer to a clerk or other customers around me staring, getting annoyed or smirking and me feeling dumb and under pressure.
