Just wondered how many people get Brainfreeze or Ice Cream Headache.

I had a KFC Krushem today while driving and had to pull over the car as it was really painful

My GF thinks it's something you grow out of as she only had it as a child.

I voted 'Yes'. I have to drink smoothies and shakes, slowly, or I get an intense brain-freeze. And, I absolutely, would not be able to operate a motor-vehicle, or do anything else for that matter, in the midst of experiencing the intense pain of a brain-freeze. Hi, by the way.

Yep. Me too. Because most are so darn good, it's hard to stop sucking them up the straw, in one fell swoop. Or, two or three, at most.

edit. I'm a few years older than you, in case it matters with regard to whether or not it is something one grows out of, in childhood (Although, I am still a child in my mind...)... oh, maybe there's a mind/brain(freeze) connection...

I'd never heard of brain freezes before I heard it mentioned in an American film. Why does it exist in the US and not where I live?

Yes, I still occasionally get one if I bolt my icecream or cold drink on a hot day.

I think it's safe to say if you & me haven't learnt at our age , it's not a life skill we'll ever get

I don't think my brain has ever grown up - do brains grow up ?

If I don't take the time to enjoy a Slurpee or an ice cream, I end up getting brain freeze.

I do, but I get the pain centralized in the top part of my eye. That's what happens when I get a migraine, too, only still more intense then - the pain centralizes in the same part of my eye for a while before spreading out throughout my head. A "brain-freeze" for me is also bad enough that for a minute or two, I can't really do anything other than cringe in pain - I too wouldn't be able to drive while having one (that is, if I could drive in the first place...).

hilarious. Yes, that is, indeed, safe to say!

Our brains mature in various ways, no matter what. However, when it comes to the mind, it is possible to stop maturing. Disregard if your question was rhetorical or joking. I'm not the best at deciphering... :study:

Hi dragonsanddemons. My symptoms of a brain-freeze are precisely, the same as what you experience. I've never experienced a migraine (that I am aware of), but, I have always been curious about them. I'm glad you pointed out the similarity.

For me, a migraine is kind of like all the pain from a really bad headache is concentrated into one spot about the size of a fingertip. I get nauseated at the start, but I think that might just be because the pain is so intense. After maybe half an hour or so, the pain kind of spreads throughout my head, hurting a bit less but all over. I'm fortunate enough to not get any other symptoms with my migraines, but other people can get a lot of different symptoms like visual disturbances (called an "aura"), sensitivity to light and sound, and loss of fine motor skills. But for me, a brain freeze kind of feels like a milder version of a migraine. Or it could have been misdiagnosed the first time I had one, and it could be some other sort of headache-related thing I experience.

Yes, and with the way I eat it I probably get more than most people.

Usually I have crunched through most of my ice cream cone by the time everyone else is just starting on the part inside the cone.
