Car Thread!
Any Car nuts here?
I for one own a pretty sweet ride, my Pride and joy, Leo.
In case you were wondering what the heck that is? It's a Pontiac G8 stateside, except as a Wagon. We call them "Holden Commodores" here, and they're pretty popular. Mine has the GM HFV6 in the form of the LY7 variant, making this the equivalent of a Pontiac G8 GS.
There are plenty of plans planned for this car. I want to put a TR6060 Six Speed in it (which comes standard on Commodore SS, SSV and HSV models), bolted up to oddly enough, an RB30/25DET NEO using a gearbox adapter kit for a VL Commodore, which surprisingly had the RB30ET in it. This means all the wiring would have to come out, and a new front subframe would need to be fabricated for it. I've had a fascination for Skylines ever since my first car, an R31 Nissan Skyline. I always thought about making a modern version of the VL commodore, so This will end up being my eventual goal for when the HFV6 finally pops... Or for when I finally kill another 5L40E box... The latter is more likely to happen.
I've been building cars ever since I was a young kid. I learnt how to take apart carburetors and repair them without using an instruction manual when I was like, six. My father, who was a trained mechanic (and a bit of a dickbag), couldn't even figure it out. The first car I ever built from the ground up was a 1974 HQ Ute, which I built for my mom, with which I drove to my school ball in 2008. Literally was the coolest kid there, apart from when I totally screwed it up with my crush at the time...
But yeah, speaking of that, this car's been helping me get through a pretty rough time. The money I spend on this thing has helped me to feel happy about myself lately, on the back foot of losing the one I used to love. I recently began working on the interior and getting it to a distinct "Red, Black and Yellow" theme. There's other mods, like a sound system, Interior lighting, and all kinds of stuff.
I generally avoid meets because I'm worried that i'd either say something stupid or getting caught up in someone else's stupidity. I see too many cars getting defected and the last thing i'd need is to have mine defected for something someone else did. Besides, there's something about taking something and making it truly yours, something that makes me smile from ear to ear when i put pedal to the metal on a finished project. It's beautiful. Some might even call it love.
