What would you say is a reasonable amount to pay to charities? As % of income. I believe in donating to charities , but there are so many out there and it's easy to end up overdoing it.

I don't believe in donating based on percentage. I have a budget which includes saving, so I look at that too when I make a donation.

Well, I wouldn't bother donating to any cancer charities because about 90% or more goes to administration.
The surgeon who started the brain cancer foundation quit his own charity recently after learning this.

Given that supposedly 28p OF Euro/National lottery tickets goes to good causes would you see that as part of charitable donating? Quite a few charities now have fairly small weekly/monthly lotteries.

Even without including that I certainly donate several times more than 1% to charities.

I don't give financial donations, but I am a Red Cross blood donor if this counts as being charitable.

I don't enter lotteries because I don't gamble, which is what lotteries are - gambling, so I consider that rather unethical considering the problems caused by gambling in my area.
I donate a lot of stuff to charities, and also try to buy from charities before buying from retail stores, so that's enough for me.
At least I can see that the money and goods go to good use.

I would say that counts. It's not always about donating money or clothes/goods.

I see no problem with sensible gambling for a good cause. I agree though there should be sensible limits on what people should spend on them.
I think education rather than blanket prohibition is the way to go.

I went to a Catholic high-skewl & was told that we are supposed to donate 10% of our income to the church but I cant remember if that was net or gross income.
