Is it ever funny?

No, it's never funny. Even when it's female on male abuse.

It's disgusting.

It can be when it's meant to be funny like on a TV cartoon or sitcom but it usually has to be very over the top & ridiculous. Or if it's in a comedy song

I don't think it's ever funny.

People used to think Punch and Judy was funny.
Punch even used to beat his baby.

aside from outright slapstick comedy, violence is the most unfunny thing imaginable.

Domestic abuse is absolutely horrendous whether it be m/f, f/m, m/m, f/f or sibling to sibling.

It is never ever funny.

I'd tell a domestic violence joke, but it'd be a slap in the face to women.

Never. I can't think any case of domestic abuses as funny things.

In all seriousness, though, I find nothing funny in domestic abuse unless it's used in the context of a joke.

Never. I don't even care for slapstick comedy.

If I recall correctly, he ultimately murdered it - and several other people. This passed for humor then.

One thing to keep in mind is that abusers often dismiss their milder meannesses as "jokes". If you object to a vicious comment, you just have no sense of humor. If you object to blatant mistreatment, you're too sensitive, you can't take a joke, etc. It's a tidy mechanism for allowing bystanders to deny what's going on, and for keeping the abuser in a position of power. (Edit in: short version: domestic abuse is funny when you're the abuser, or an enabler thereof.)

In the early 1900's there used to be a newspaper comic strip called Bringing Up Father. It was about a wacky Irish immigrant named Jiggs who struck it rich. But while Jiggs still wanted to live the lifestyle he had before, as in hanging out at the bar with his drinking buddies, eating, and sleeping, his wife Maggie wanted them to climb up the social ladder and would throw big fancy parties and stuff. When Jiggs tried to sneak out of these gatherings or did anything to upset her, Maggie would fly into a rage, and either whack him over the head with her rolling pin, or throw a huge pile of dishes at him, even when he was sitting outdoors. She was really strong!

But we were all like, ha ha ha it's funny because a woman is attacking her husband. I remember reading the strip as a kid in the 80's, but the domestic violence was gradually tamed. Then it was mostly Jiggs making wisecracks about Maggie's poor cooking, singing and piano playing, having an annoying neighbor who wouldn't stop borrowing things, and his brother-in-law being a drunken bum.

Okay. I admit that I never found it all that funny when I was growing up. Some of it may be from the fact that for a kid on a ranch far from the nearest city, it was difficult to relate to a show about life in a small apartment in a big city.

The only funny thing I remember from any of Jackie Gleason's shows was a different show. At one point, he checked into a hotel and asked why there were three taps on the sink. The bellhop answered that one was hot water, one was cold water, and one was whiskey.
