Okay, so... I'm planning on moving out of my apartment to a bigger duplex next month. I have a dog, a shih tzu, who desperately wants to be a social puppy, but I don't let her since so many of the complex's dogs are aggressive. Not only that, but she hates being left alone when I go to work or on errands. My dream dog, I guess you could say, is a great dane, and someone real close to me just put up an ad for great dane puppies. Altogether, this sounds like the perfect opportunity to bring a second dog into my house, but I don't want to do so and then realize either I or my current dog weren't ready for that. Anyone know how I should go about deciding whether I'm ready or not?

Well it might be a good idea to help keep her company. But you would want to make sure to get a dog that does well with other dogs...some don't. My sister has a dog that probably would not benefit from living with another dog, but he doesn't seem to express much desire to be a very social dog. He either barks at them or ignores them.

But you could always check the shelters around where you live, and ask the people there about which dogs are more friendly with other dogs...to help make a good selection.
