"Safety belt" emphasizes the importance of wearing one.

Quite frankly it just makes me think of PC changing of terms, the kind that makes me roll my eyes and swear to never use the new term.

I've always known them as seatbelts, as long as they stop people from being killed in car accidents it doesn't matter what they're called.

I and everyone else I know has always called them seat belts. Safety belt sounds weird to me for some reason, and who cares just as long as they save lives, anyway?
